Fashion Star

How many of you have been watching Fashion Star?

I know the show opened to many mixed reviews and tonight's episode is the second to last. I was able to actually be at the taping for this episode (it was taped last August) and had such high hopes for the show. I agree with many that there was too much information for an hour episode and that they set up the show horribly. It was hard to follow and they seemed to skip designers and mentor's commentary. I do think that it has gotten a little better as they have eliminated designers. I don't know if the show has gotten the ratings for a second season, but if they do the show again I am hoping the change some things. As for the talent...it is a mixed bag. Many of the designers didn't impress me at all. I am kind of surprised at the attitudes of some of the designers as well. My favorite and the one I am rooting for is, Orly Shani. I love her attitude, the fact that she wears her heart on her sleeve and obviously her designs. My fingers are crossed that she makes it to the finale and doesn't get cut tonight (we weren't able to see the elimination so I don't know).

If someone were to listen to my opinion on how to make the show more marketable, these are the things I would do...

• Set up the show on a format: there needs to be continuoty for the viewer to understand how the show works, who the designer is and give everyone fair air time.
• Drop Elle (she is gorgeous but not a great interviewer or host) and find someone who can carry the show and ask appropriate questions
• Give the mentors more time to advise and share their talent
• Challenge the designers to make similar pieces so that we can see where their strengths and weaknesses lie. 
• If necessary make the first few episodes longer so that you can really get depth out of the contestants and mentors.

I hope that you will tune in tonight and keep an eye out for me in the audience! I am to the left of the stage, smack dab in the middle. Best bet in catching a glimpse is when they are looking at the buyers :)

Let me know what you think of the show, I am interested to see if you loved or hated it. The concept is there but it leaves me longing for more.

What I Wore: Flying By

This week is flying by! I feel AWFUL that I haven't had a chance to visit all of your blogs and leave some love! I will do some major catching up this weekend, but I am reading! I LOVED everyone's "Everybody, Everywear's" outfits!

I am headed to the beach this morning for a couple of days and will be away from the computer! This will be my quietest week in a long time (makes me sad) but I am happy to have a few days to spend with my WHOLE fam bam. BOTH of my sisters are in So Cal!!! Woot woot! Which means that my sissies, my darling nephew, amazing parents and our long time family friends (that I call my second family) will all be shacking up! FUN times, I am super excited.

Yesterday I got to attend the taping of Fashion Star, which will air on NBC this winter. I want to BLAB away about the experience but unfortunately I cannot share much due to signing a confidentiality agreement. Boo! SO I will share this...

• Being in the same room with Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson was awesome. Hearing them chat with the contestants showed me how smart they are in running their personal businesses and how much they have grown. Mad respect!
• Nicole looked amazing. Jessica's outfit wasn't my fav :(
• I now TRULY understand why Elle MacPherson is a Super Model. Hot damn! She is beautiful and humble. She looked phenom and her dress and heels were KILLER!
• This show is going to be AMAZING! It has an element that has never been done before. This is not another Project Runway copycat. 
• We got to see a Fashion Show of Nicole's Spring line, Winter Kate. I am DYING. It looks better than ever. Best part of the day!
• Lionel Richie stopped by. "Hello? Is it me your looking for...". Nothing like 80's L.R. to put a smile on my face.
• No camera's or phones allowed. So zero pics. I didn't even photograph my outfit. Sucky!
• I am 95% sure that I will be shown in the audience. We had GREAT seats. I am on the second to last show which will air in February!

This is an outfit from the other day. I just wanted to be comfortable. A soft tee, shorts and flip flops are the perfect combo. This is my new Stylemint tee. I am again in LOVE with the fabric and softness. The stripes are sheer and I plan on dressing this shirt up with all black and a hot pink bra soon. A little edge to a basic...be on the look out :)

Fashionista Friday: Short Booties

I am pretty much obsessed with finding the perfect short, thick or flatter heeled bootie. Isabel Marant is known for her amazing designs but I cannot afford $650+ shoes now or anytime in the near future. Seeing the booties on these fashionable ladies makes me green with envy ;) I think that the bootie is the PERFECT Fall transition shoe. I can pair it with shorts and long sleeved blouses as the nights start to get chillier and with leggings and chunky knits come Winter. I am on the hunt. If you see anything like these shoes for a great price in the near future...holler! Please and Thank you!

 I LOVE this look. Denim on denim with taupe booties. I would so copy this!

 I really LOVE this oversized tee/dress. Great way to sass up a basic.

 This outfit anyone can wear (minus the Hermes belt. That I would DIE to have) because we all have these pieces in our closet. Perfect for Fall transition!

 These booties are a little higher than I am looking for but I love the outfit and the leopard scarf (shocker :))

 Winter Uniform. Military jacket, white tee and cuffed jeans! Comfy chic.

 I adore Rachel Bilson and this look. I love the tweed jacket with the over sized blouse and cut offs. Sassy!

 LASTLY, if I found a pair NOW I can wear them in the Summer time!!! Striped silk blouse and GRAY cut offs (I need to make me a pair of these!). My favorite look to emulate right now!

Fashion Beauty Friend Friday: Locational Influences

I am so excited for FBFF because I talk about this topic all of the time. I am so glad that I am not the only one. FBFF is a way to connect with others and I love that it is focused on what is in our heads :)

Locational Influences... Katy was in New York this past

weekend and it dawned on her that she dressed differently when she lived

there as opposed to when she lived in St. Louis. And then as she watched

all the people rushing by she could identify the Europeans from the

Americans and the true New Yorkers from the tourists, it got her

thinking, where we live has a lot to do with how we dress, or at least

it can. So these questions are along those lines. 

1. What part of the world do you blog from? (feel free to be as

specific or as vague as you are comfortable with.) 

 I live and blog on the borderline of Orange and Los Angeles counties in Southern California. I have also lived in San Diego, Seattle and NYC (for 4 months).

2. If you had to describe the overall mode of dress for where you live

what would you say? 

  Overall the style here is California Casual. People tend to live in flip flops, jeans and sundresses. You do see people more fashion forward in LA. But Beach influence is dominant in all cities in So Cal.

3. Do you fit in with the status quo around you or do you break the

mold? 

 I think that overall I fit the look. I do tend to wear heels more than flip flops, dress up and accessorize a lot more. My Dad and BF say that people always look at my "weird". haha. It doesn't bother me and I don't even notice. I find it funny that they do!

4. If you have lived or traveled to another part of the country/world

did your clothing choices evolve? 

 YES...I definitely had a slight change in dressing and think that I grew in my personal style and choices. I also had to change my look depending on the weather. I learned not to walk to work in Flip Flops in Seattle and I always wore stilettos in NYC.

5. If you had to describe your style by naming a specific city, what

would you be?

 I call my look California Casual. I like to think that I am a mix between Lauren Conrad and Nicole Richie. Comfy, Casual and Chic with a slight Boho edge at times.

It is almost the weekend. Woot! Woot!

In college, Thursday's meant that it was the weekend. I think I still have that mentality ;)

If you ask me what my favorite color is, I always say Purple...

...AND Leopard.

Leopard is totally a color. It is always the first print that I am drawn too. I just can't get enough.

I have been collecting pics of leopard outfits/accessories/shoes and have compiled a great collection.

What I Wore: Nicole Richie Inspired

I am a huge fan of Nicole Richie's style. YET I don't think that it is a look that I can always pull off. Over the past year I have collected a few pieces from her clothing and jewelry lines. I even bought a pair of her shoes for my birthday in May. I love every single piece that I own. I think that they make a statement and stand out when I wear them.

Getting ready this morning I wanted to recreate my look that I wore when I met Nicole. This time around I paired my Winter Kate 'Condor' cardi with a tube top and shorts instead of a blouse and leggings. I paired it with my House of Harlow 1960 'Sunburst' necklace and 'Cassidie' heels! Adding some beachy waves to my hair I was all 'Nicole'd' out!

Hair Do

I am getting my hair done tonight.

I think I am going blonder for the Summer.

I miss my Blonde hair so much.

I am so conflicted, though!

I actually really like my hair natural. I think that I have finally gotten it to the place where it is healthy, strong and growing. Going blonder will definitely change that a little.
