What I Wore: The Chosen Dress

Happy Monday, friends.

I hope that you all had a great weekend. I definitely had a better weekend after my tough week. Thank you so much for your sweet comments and tweets. I will be responding today or tomorrow! Life is not always easy breezy but I am learning how to focus on the positive and not be led by my emotions. :)

I mentioned that I was headed to a wedding on Friday evening. The wedding was gorgeous and I had the BEST time ever. Seriously, it was so nice to let loose, have a few drinks and dance it out with my life long girlfriends. PLUS, it always puts me in a good mood to celebrate true love!

If you follow me on Instagram then you already know that I chose the blue dress for my wedding attire. I want to tell you why! While the fit flare dress is adorable, I felt like it was almost too much on the casual side. Yes I could dress it up but the fabrication and the styling just wasn't 'dressy' enough for what I was looking for. The BCBG dress looks a little more sophisticated, the color is just incredible and I loved the draping. I feel like this dress was better suited for my body type, showcasing my best features. This dress is on the shorter side which shows off my legs which is one of my better assets. It shows very a small amount of cleavage but covers the shoulders which keeps the top mostly covered up. I love that there are two extra pieces that drape in an "X" across the body. The "X" crosses at my smallest point creating the illusion that I have a waist (being an apple shape means that I need to wear clothing that gives me a waist). I wore a nude heel that makes my legs look longer than they are. I kept my jewlery very simple. I also created a deep side part, waves and pulled back one side of my hair to change up my look a little. I think it all came together well.

Wedding Season Dress Follow Up

A few weeks ago I wrote this post about some dress options for the many weddings that I am attending in the next few months. I asked for your opinions and I headed to the store to try on your top choice and my top choice. 

Your top choice was Number One, the Felicity and Coco Fit and Flare. This dress is darling, comes in great colors, is made of a great fabric and has a fun and flirty style. I was drawn to this dress the first time I saw it.

 My top choice was the BCBG Draped Minidress. I was drawn to the color, the detail in the draping and that it was a little more sophisticated and sexy. 

I have to admit that I wasn't super excited to be in the dressing room. It was mentally tough for me to try on clothes and not see what I was hoping to see. I walked away being proud of the weight I have lost BUT reminded that there is still a long way to go. 

I am not going to reveal if or which dress I bought. I will do a true What I Wore: Wedding Style post when the time comes. I just wanted to share with you that your opinion matters, that confidence is still something I struggle with and that putting my tears and fears out there helps me overcome them!

Wedding Season Dress Options

It is wedding season! I know so many people getting married in the upcoming months. One of my close friends, that I have known since I was 7, is getting married next month. I am so excited to attend her wedding. She is getting married at a restaurant on the Pechanga (an Indian casino in our hometown) property and I know that we will all end up in the casino at the end of the wedding. I will be with a huge group of friends that I grew up with and we know how to have a good time.

Since I have lost a significant amount of weight, I am going to have to purchase a new dress (poor me, I know!) and I am so excited to try some new styles on. I have been scouring Nordstrom's website to find things that I really like AND that will look good on my body type. I also want a dress that is versatile enough to wear whether I am attending a wedding in Vegas, at a winery, the beach or in a church. I do have plans for a Girl's Trip to Vegas in early Summer so having a dress that I can wear out to a nice dinner and playing games in the casino would be nice to own too! I am a firm believer that you can wear the same dress for a classy event like a wedding or it can be the perfect Poker Apparel as well! I like to error on the dressier, sassier side when in Vegas! I know that having a strong piece in my wardrobe that has a great cut and in a bright color can be changed up and made to look differently with shoes and jewelry. I am trying to keep that in mind when picking the perfect dress. All of the dresses below possess the quality of being a sassy staple while being able to be dressed up or down.

I have narrowed it down to five dresses that I am going to track down and try on in the stores. Here are my top picks. PLEASE let me know what you think!

I was going to give my pros and cons along with my opinion on each dress BUT I want to hear your honest opinions. Don't forget I always sass my clothes up with accessories and FAB shoes! Regardless I think that ALL of these dresses are perfect for an evening wedding and than is PERFECT poker apparel for the after wedding festivities at the casino.

I have been on the look out for MONTHS to find a yellow/taupe striped top. And I FINALLY found the perfect one. For ELEVEN dollars (with a 30% off code) at Old Navy! I was able to emulate this look for CHEAP. Many of you told me that you really like my casual outfits so I am excited to show off this one! YES, I am wearing stripes, big stripes. I don't feel a huge cow either! WIN!

Yesterday I unpacked ALL of my Handbags and Clutches and created an Accessory closet in my spare bedroom. I now have access to my 30+ bags. I cannot wait to change it up more often. I love this Junior Drake bag that I bought at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale in 2007. It is the perfect color, holds SO much and has a crossbody strap. I couldn't ask for more in a bag.

What I Wore: INSPIRATION Bows!

I have been so excited to create outfits based around my inspirations in THIS post.

My first outfit is based around the shoes! When I bought these Pierre Hardy for Gap wedges I knew that they would make a statement. I originally saw them on Jessica of What I Wore and she wore them tied up around her ankles last year. But when I saw Blair of Atlantic-Pacific wearing them tied in big, flouncy bows I knew I had to recreate the look.

I wanted to keep the shoes the focal point so I wore a navy dress. I added a cream, snake print skinny belt to mix prints and make the outfit a little more interesting. I love the outfit and received so many compliments. I am glad I started small and felt like I can branch out even more. I love challenging myself.
