What I Wore: Just Playing

I heart my new camera. I got to play around with it a little bit and I am hooked! I have so much to learn which excites me. It is also going to be a little more time consuming taking my own pics as I am running back and forth trying to beat the timer and still pose. I am so happy to have a new hobby. I headed to a local park to play around with lighting and to try to get a wee bit more comfortable taking pictures of myself in public. Lucky readers, you get to be the witness as I learn all about lighting and while I practice, practice, practice!

I know what you are probably thinking with this outfit. 
Camo Again? Yes. 
Super casual? Yes. 
Basic and dare I say it, boring? Probably.
Not Blog worthy? Probably Not.
But in my defense, I just love camo, I don't have anything to really dress up for and I liked the outfit. I really think that camo is neutral and looks great combined with neon. Plus, I was running around a park and comfort was key. I am sure fancier outfits will be back soon but for today, casual comfort, it is!

You guys...

We have to talk about The Bachelor! How many of you are watching this show? I blame my parents for sucking me back in after not watching for several seasons. But man, it is a trainwreck that I can't tear my eyes away from. Since I am single, I am using this as a "what not to do" guide. I mean, there are some really cute and normal girls but the crazies are just in your face. I am truly blown away by the manipulation and flat out bitchiness. I live by the saying "treat others how you want to be treated" and "be kind to everyone because you don't know what battle they are going through". I get that you won't mesh with or be friends with every girl... BUT that does not mean you can act a fool. For the record: I would NEVER be able to be on a show like that, I don't think I could deal with all those girls dating the one man I want and I would have a hard time not running my mouth. America does not need to see that side of me. Haha! If I ever ended up on the show I would never, ever, ever act in a way that would embarrass my parents and make them question how they raised me. 

PS. I LOVE that Selma won't kiss him on TV out of respect for her mom.

So what do you wear when it is chilly AND you have a couple new items you are dying to wear? You just layer everything on and hope it goes. I knew that I wanted to wear this top with the heels when I bought them. The subtle, natural snake print seemed like the perfect print to pair with a somewhat neutral and navy striped top. I added the camo jacket because I liked the color combo of the tan, navy and green. You tell me... did I pull off mixed prints?

It is HUMP day!

I always look forward to Wednesday because I know the weekend is just around the corner! Today's post is going to be short and sweet. 

I attended the Carrie Underwood concert last night. She was PHENOMENAL live! Seriously. I think she is one of the most gorgeous people in the world. And her legs. Hands down the best I have ever seen. Loved the costumes and her voice is amazing. We had FAB seats and I enjoyed the company of a really good friend who hooked the tickets up! I think this may be my last concert for the year. SAD FACE! Although I will be buying my ticket for Stagecoach Music Festival on Saturday morning! YAY!!!!

I am not one to dress up for concerts. I stick to the basics. Plus it is still hot in LA and it is always hot in the venue. I decided to wear my printed ddenim, booties and a tank. Threw on a necklace and some bangles and called it an outfit! What do you think??

Currently Lusting After...

I browse the Internet frequently. When you are on the computer as much as I am it is hard not to fall in love with something new every day. I have started pinning my favorite things so that I can either save up to buy the piece or look back at it in a couple of weeks and decide if I still love it. Here are the items that I am currently lusting after...

This is what I have determined from my current list:

1. I am still OBSESSED with aztec/southwestern/ikat prints. Whether it be in a sweater, bahing suit, necklace or shoe, I want it all! I love that each piece is a statement in itself.

2. Stand Out Pieces: I love having ONE piece that pulls the entire look together. I think all three blazers do that AND they all have a different cut. I love that I can dress with a slight edge with the snake print, or All American/Nautical with the striped blazer or Feminine in the pastel, coral blazer. Let's talk about the Peplum Tee... I love the twist on a basic and could see myself wearing it with everything. It is simple yet different. Great piece!

3. My love for Accessories will NEVER D-I-E!! The other day I was called a 'Sunglasses Slut' by my male coworker. And he couldn't be more right! I am always trying to find a new pair. I love the sides on this House of Harlow  pair. We all love a good arm party and adding a Bow Bangle would be a fun and feminine touch. That chain ring is amazing...tough and pretty. 

What I Wore: One Shirt...Two Ways

I have to admit, being fashionable or stylish ALL of the time is daunting. I am definitely someone who wears the same pieces over and over again. Instead of only taking pictures of the best outfit I decided to show you two ways I wore the same top. I love the ombre top and have had a lot of fun pairing it with color.

The first look is from last Friday. I wore this to my friend's 30th Birthday party at Lucky Strike Bowling Alley. It was cute but still appropriate to bowl in. I still love my red skinnies and think that red ALWAYS looks good with black and gray. The second look is what I wore to work yesterday. Basic dark denim shorts paired with fuschia heels was the perfect complement to the tee. The shoes pulled the whole look together and made a statment.

Hana Flat Iron

Hair.

We have it, we love it or we hate it, most people want the type of hair they don't have. I have spent years trying to work with my natural texture. Thousands of dollars on styling, products and accessories to try to make my hair look decent. I have dry, coarse, frizzy hair. I tend to liken my natural hair to resemble Mufasa from The Lion King. Yes, my friends, my hair is THAT good. ;)

 This is actually a BETTER "dried" hair day!

When the kind marketing team at Misikko reached out to me to try their 1.5" Hana Flat Iron, I could NOT pass up the opportunity. I mean, I get to try a top of the line product and tame my beast! Done and Done!

I have spent the last three weeks using this flat iron and trying my hand at different styles. The flat iron heats up SUPER fast and gets up to 400 degrees which is SUPER important in my book. I need the heat to really make a difference on my hair. I love that the plates are wider (my last flat iron was less that an inch wide). You may laugh but my favorite thing was that the iron came with a heat resistant carrying case. I tend to be on the go and have been taking a ton of weekend trips so being able to unplug and pack it immediately has been huge. I have forgotten to grab my flat iron numerous times because it was cooling down. 

I want to show you three ways that I was able to style my hair. 

First, I obviously did the basic and straightened my hair. It took me about 6 minutes and was sleek and straight ALL day. I have to say that I don't care for my hair straight and you won't see it straight often!

Second look, my go to hair style is waves/curls. I LOVE that I can use a straightener to get my hair to look exactly like I would with a 1 1/4 inch curling iron. It takes me about 12 minutes to do my hair like this. I wore my hair in this style the third day of Stagecoach in Palm Desert and it stayed all day and night (I did have the desert, dry heat on my side. My hair always looks best in the desert!)

My third look, is true beachy waves. I only half curled, large pieces of hair with the straightener. I then used Bumble and Bumble beach spray to give it texture and make it look piecey. This look took me about 5 minutes.

Happy Hump day!!

I have been quite M.I.A. in the Blogosphere and I don't think I am going to have much time in the next few weeks to tweet or comment on your blogs. It is taking everything in me to get regular posts up. So I apologize that I haven't been visiting and commenting. I notice that it definitely makes a difference on you coming to visit me (which is hard). So I hope you will continue to stop in from time to time as I focus on my weight loss goal and living it up the last few weeks of my twenties! 

This outfit has instantly become a favorite. It is so easy to wear and it looks chic. These pants and my worn in chambray button up are like pajamas. It is starting to warm up and my toes are so happy. I love being able to bust out my open toed shoes. These LC Lauren Conrad sandals from her first release of her shoe collection were a huge staple for me last Summer. I love how they made my look a little more Springy. Simple jewelry and over-sized shades were the finishing touches.

What I Wore: Casual Cool

I do not know what it is about this outfit that just feels like me.
If I had a personal style "uniform" it would include these pieces (with shorts for the summer time). This look screams California Casual to me. Plus I just felt really good, comfortable and even sexy in it. 

I have to proclaim my love for all things Nicole Richie. I love her attitude, her style and her clothing and accessory lines. The jacket that I am wearing is Winter Kate. It is 100% silk as is most of the Winter Kate line. Something about silk is just sexy. I have had this piece in my closet for over a year. It didn't fit me the way I had hoped when I bought it but I held onto it. I think that this piece IS the outfit. Pairing it with a slouchy white tee and my favorite cropped jeans just made the look me. I wear heels A LOT! I have started to incorporate some flats into my wardrobe but heels have my heart. I will choose heels over flats unless it isn't practical. This Shoemint pair is perfect. The neutral color, scalloping and thick heel is chic, trend right and comfortable enough to wear all day. They only thing lacking in my look is accessories. I ran out the door without a ton of jewelry on (not like me). So in the future I have to not run late ;) I do have on my FAVORITE sunnies. The are over sized cat eyes and definitely make a statement. I get that they are not for everyone. They happen to be House of Harlow 1960 which is part of Nicole's accessory line. So now you see why I love me some Nicole Richie!

What I Wore: Particular

I have to preface that this may come off kind of cocky/conceited. While that is not EVER my intention I understand that people read things without hearing tone and inflection. They also read things they way the want to understand/believe it.

With that said...I have spent the last nine years of my life working in the Fashion Industry after receiving my BA in Fashion merchandising/business. I held many different positions and all of them taught me something incredibly valuable. While I would never call myself an expert I feel that I have the experience and education to really be able to share and help others define themselves through their style. I continue to immerse myself in Fashion, trends and memorize key pieces. As I blog and continue to hone my personal style I become more and more particular. Shopping really is an art. While that may sound silly I have found that there are many layers that go into a shopping experience. Many people LOATHE shopping (that may seem crazy to us Fashionista's) and shy away from it. Besides being mentally prepared (that is a whole blog series...OOOOoooo an idea ;)) you have to dress the part for a successful trip. When I say dress the part I am not suggesting you have to LOOK a certain way, I know many people think that and feel judged. I think you should wear particular pieces and proper undergarments to feel comfortable in the dressing room, under the fluorescent lights and in front of the mirrors. 

I mentioned that I had a shopping trip with fellow blogger, Kristen, and I wanted to make sure that I was dressed comfortably for our shopping experience. Today's outfit is an example of MY "perfect" shopping outfit. I tend to favor a button up top because they are easy to take off (mine has snap buttons) and put on. It is also a piece that I wear with pants, skirts and shorts so I can get an idea of outfits that I already have or can create. I think wearing a camisole underneath is always a good idea. Every person should wear bottoms that they wear the most frequently. It can be slacks, jeans, a skirt or leggings. I chose jeans because I wear them 80% of the time. I also leaned towards a trend color to continue to challenge myself to branch out and try on different colors/patterns/combinations. Slip on shoes like flats or sandals are the best choice when shopping. No muss, no fuss. While I am a total heels girl I wear flats for long, marathon shopping trips. I will wear heels when shopping for certain pieces; for me that would be dresses, skirts and pants/slacks. I know my body and what lengths look best on my body type. It has taken a lot of trial and error to figure out what looks best. I also know that heels make me look better in a lot of clothing choices I make. I always wear my best bra and underwear. Having proper undergarments can make or break an outfit. These tips have helped me have positive and successful shopping experiences. I hope they help you!

What I Wore: Transitional Piece

I love finding pieces that transcend seasons.

When I found the Target Bed Jacket (seen here and here) I knew it was one of those pieces that I could wear year round. I have been wearing it with long sleeve shirts and jeans now. But I am excited to wear it with a tank, cut offs and sandals or a simple tank dress and some wedges. I loved it in floral so much that I knew I had to pick up another color. I chose aqua with small black and white squares. The color is bright and cheerful, looks great with denim and is pretty for Spring and Summer.

It has been in the high sixties so I am still keeping my legs covered. Pairing this jacket with my go to jeans and basic tank was an easy choice. I really wanted my necklace and heels to take center stage and compliment the jacket. I love how one statement necklace can make or break the outfit. If you follow me on Twitter you may remember that my Shoemint 'Chloe' heels were stolen from my doorstep. LUCKILY they were restocked and I was sent another pair. I LOVE them as much as I thought I would. This is the most perfect color heels. They will go with everything. SO excited to wear these babies all of the time.

What I Wore: Sparkly Gold

After two uninspiring posts (to me) I knew that I had to step it up. I have been itching to wear these shoes again and planned my entire outfit around them. I honestly plan most of my outfits around my shoes and/or jewelry. I have been told that most people plan their outfits first then accessorize. I am not normal ;)

 I wanted to share a few things before jumping into my outfit. ONE, I am hiking to the Hollywood sign today. I am so excited about it! I have this on my bucket list and cannot believe I am crossing it off. TWO, I cannot wait for you all to read my third Fashionista Fitness post tomorrow. My inspiration has completely been coming from my exercise regime. THREE, Y'all need to head to Target. They have INCREDIBLE shoes right now. I have bought quite a few pairs in the last couple of weeks. Oops! 

Ok, the outfit. I found this gem of a sweater in my closet and realized I had not worn it in over a year. I bought it for my ten year High School reunion. I love the length and that it has sparkly gold paint all over it. Since it was a little dressier I pulled out some jeggings. My House of Harlow necklace is one of my favorites and is the perfect compliment to the sweater. Throwing on my fabulous heels in bronze, snake print and gold completed the look. This is definitely one of my favorite outfits in a long time.

What I Wore: Sass it up

I love how one piece can change an outfit for the better.

When I picked up this faux fur stole at H&M a couple of months ago I knew that it would be special enough to dress up my most basic pieces. I love this shirt but it is a bit sheer in real life and I am always weary of light, voluminous tops (I always look 15 pounds heavier, never a good look) and pairing it with the stole draws your eye up. What I didn't realize was that my hair blends right into the stole and it looks like a whole lotta hair going on! I LOVE these shoes but I have a hard time pairing them with a lot of my clothes. I knew they would be a perfect for this look. I love how the turquoise stones just pop. You may recognize the jeans. I wore them here. They are my Old Navy 'Rockstar' jeggings that I cannot get enough of. I am kind of obsessed with this blue color, the color is kind of retro to me. It is a different blue from anything in my closet and that always makes me happy!

I was comfortable yet sassy!
